Celebrate June with Your Favorite Candy

June is the one month every year that we get an excuse to indulge more than usual and that is because it is the official month to celebrate candy in America. While it is has proved quite challenging to find the exact reason why June holds the title of National Candy Month, it does have some important candy history.
One of the first significant candy events in June took place in 1905 when George Cadbury and his staff created and first released Dairy Milk in England. This chocolate bar set itself apart from the competition by having a higher proportion of milk in the recipe and became the company’s bestselling product by 1914. Many names were considered for the chocolate bar such as Highland Milk, Jersey, and Dairy Maid, but once a customer’s daughter suggested the name Dairy Milk, it just stuck. Another significant candy event took place in 1963 when Hershey’s opened its first manufacturing plant outside of Hershey, Pennsylvania. This new plant was located in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada, and was the start of this candy giant’s rise to global power.
While this isn’t explicitly said to be the reason that June earned the title of National Candy Month, there is no denying it’s relevancy to candy history. Be sure to take a moment this month to celebrate all that candy is about and maybe even indulge a little bit.
